ABOUT ME
I have a broad background in ecology, evolutionary genetics and genomics, molecular biology, population genetics, and phylogenetics. More recently as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Georgia (UGA), I have gained exceptional training in computational biology, genomics, epigenetics and epigenomics from a variety of eukaryotic systems. The overarching goal of my research program is to determine when and how epigenomic variation evolved and its functional and adaptive consequences.
My passion for teaching and mentoring drove me to obtain a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), and this continues to be a critical part of my career as an academic scientist. My primary goal as an instructor and mentor is to foster critical thinking skills that students can use within and outside of the laboratory or classroom setting.
I constantly seek opportunities to build a strong and active research community. At UGA I am a regular contributor and participant in several groups: Ecology/Diversity/Genetics/Evolution (EDGE), Plant Functional Genomics (PFG), and The Plant Center. Furthermore, I have built strong collaborations with the 1000 Plant initiative (1KP) and the 1000 Fungal Genomes initiative (1KFG).
